Pandemic Architecture: POD KIT

In Tokyo, where we live, the public transportation system is so developed that few people own cars and need to use public transportation to get anywhere. Under the circumstances of this pandemic, it is difficult to even go to the next town, and it is even difficult to meet up with friends who are far away. It is not an exaggeration to say that STAY HOME is tougher than any other city in Japan, especially in Tokyo. This is because most of the land in Tokyo is already used for various buildings, facilities, and housing complexes, and we can only own a very limited amount of land and rooms, and we have to live in a very small space every day. With such limited space and constraints, it is almost impossible for us to live a healthy life. Because of this, people in Japan have long thought about how to make effective use of limited space in their lives. For example, capsule hotels and movable parking lots are typical examples of this.

As I mentioned above, I put particular emphasis on the following three points, keeping in mind the unique character of Tokyo.

  1. Adaptable to an existing building.

  2. The ability to travel in conjunction with the development of Tokyo's public transportation system.

  3. You can live a life in which you can maintain your health by combining various box spaces

We designed not only to serve as a simple shelter but also to enable everyone in the country to live a decent and healthy life.

Rotema

The concept of a Rotema house is to create an easily accessible space where family members with different lifestyles can gather together to talk about their day or relax at home. This is achieved by creating an large open air bath in the center of the house that flows naturally from every room. This concept is inspired from Japanese culture where taking baths together forms an integral part of society.
